The most emblematic peak of the entire Montserrat massif is undoubtedly the Cavall Bernat. The legend of its origin says that a woodcutter who had to transport beams of wood to the Llobregat, the devil lent him a horse called Bernat, fast as a lightning, to help him in this work. 'Cavall Bernat, Cavall Bernat, descends the wood to the Llobregat' says that the woodcutter said to the horse.
But anyone who makes agreements with the devil must give something in return. The condition imposed by the devil was that after ten years the woodcutter had to provide him with another horse of similar characteristics.
The woodcutter became rich thanks to the help of the horse Bernat but on the day they were ten years old, the devil reminded him of the promise that the woodcutter had already forgotten. Faced with this, his wife prayed to the Virgin and a light filled the place. After the scare, the devil and the horse Bernat had disappeared and instead a stone was raised pointing to the sky.
