Within the framework of the traditional Festivals of the streets Viserta, Manresa, Germans de la Salle and Plaza del Bo-Bo, Monistrol de Montserrat will today premiere the restoration that has been done, in recent months, to the Gegants Wells, who next year will celebrate 110 years. The work, carried out by the Navarrese restorer Aitor Calleja, has allowed the facial features of the original giants to be rescued, such as glass eyes and old hairstyles. In this way, they recover the physiognomy they had in 1914, when they were built in the Barcelona workshop El Ingenio.

This festival has its roots in the fact that between the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries the population of Catalonia in general and the Monistrolean, in particular, suffered several epidemics of black plague that came to cause the death of an important sector of the population. Since there was no medical remedy, asking for the intercession of Saints and Church became common in our lands. Hence the origin of the devotion of the Monistrolians to San Sebasti'n, much venerated everywhere, as a cure for plague and other infectious evils.
