Fair of Coca and Mató

The Coca and Mató de Monistrol Fair in Montserrat is a gastronomic and cultural event that is held annually in this town in the Bages region, in the province of Barcelona. The fair revolves around two traditional products closely linked to the area: coca and mató, which are the main protagonists of the day and represent the link with the cuisine and the tradition of the territory.

During the fair, which usually takes place in November, the streets of Monistrol are filled with stalls where you can buy and taste these local products. Coc*, a typical Catalan sweet, and mató, a fresh cheese made with goat’s or cow’s milk, are the stars of the day. Visitors can taste various varieties of coca, both sweet and savoury, as well as fresh cottage accompanied by honey, a classic and highly appreciated combination in Catalonia.

In addition to tastings, the Coca and Mató Fair also includes a wide range of complementary activities, such as gastronomic workshops, demonstrations of traditional cottage production and cultural performances that encourage the day. It is common for there to be musical shows, parades and children's activities, turning the fair into a family and festive event.

This event not only highlights the value of local gastronomy, but it is also an occasion for the promotion of tourism in Monistrol de Montserrat, given its proximity to the monastery of Montserrat, one of the most emblematic destinations in Catalonia. Many visitors take advantage of the fair to enjoy the festive atmosphere and, at the same time, visit the monastery and the natural surroundings of the Montserrat massif.

Sixty food and craft stalls, with coca and mató as the main protagonists, will celebrate the Fair of the Coca and the Mató de Monistrol of Montserrat, which celebrates its 30th anniversary. Musical performances are increasing and the amusement area, located on the esplanade of the nursing home, will have more offer.
